Provision of Meter Serial Numbers means that the new energy supplier can quickly locate the correct property at the beginning of the switch process. Often, for apartment blocks or new builds, property addresses are not always up to date or easy for the new energy supplier to identify on the national database. Meter Serial Numbers can help overcome this challenge, to ensure the switch of supply is attempted on the correct property.



Meter readings added to the Helpthemove system are used by the energy suppliers (previous & new) to ensure accurate final and opening bills. Without the provision of meter readings the energy suppliers will use estimates, which can often be inaccurate.



It is not mandatory to add a meter reading to be able to complete a Move Out on the portal. However, if you choose not to add the reading at the time you submit the Move, you should always return at a later date to provide the information. From the Move Out date, you have 6 weeks to revisit the submission on the Helpthemove system to add the related meter readings to the Move record, however the ideal timescale is 3 days from the date of the move. Ovo Energy will be unable to use the meter readings after this time period.
