When the energy partner receives your request to switch the energy at a property, their first step is to identify the property on the national energy database (ECOES for electric, and Xoserve for gas). Sometimes addresses on the national energy database can differ to those used and so to be sure they identify the correct property, the energy provider will request meter details, for example the Meter Serial Number (MSN) and / or Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) for electricity & Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) for gas. Provision of this information will allow the new energy provider to accurately identify the property and take over the supply without error.

If the energy partner finds a discrepancy between the property address added to the portal and the property address on the national energy database and does not receive any additional meter details to help them locate the correct property they will not attempt to take over the supply, as the risk of taking over the supply at the wrong property is too high.

We will contact you via email to request any information needed for the location of the correct supply and meter details. The energy can be switched during the vacancy period but if a tenant moves in and the energy partner has still not been successful in locating the correct supply, we cannot switch the fuels and the supply will remain with the current provider.
